Getting used to the Tam accent

Being in Chennai, getting used to the Tamilian accent is important to survive. Otherwise, you'll be left gaping at the person who would later be forced to resort to violent gestures only because you failed to understand his English laden with a thick Tamilian accent. While Lola Kutty served as the brand ambassador for the funny and often incomprehensible Malayalee accent, there was no Madrasi counterpart to do the same.

Our professors often ask us if we're able to register the details in our 'brine'. Yes, brine! C'mon, we all know what brine is- the organ that is protected by the skull, the one that has grey and white areas..yes, brine! Similarly, extra becomes 'extraw', laugh becomes 'lof' and complication becomes 'kaamplication'. This is also how I got re-christened as 'Rogini' (Rohini being my name)!

Queer language with really funny pronounciations but if you wish to speak tamil, remember that the accent is very important because at the end of the day, it's not your love for filter coffee or idly-vada that will help you blend with the crowd.

More later! :) Nanree, vanakkam! ;)
